CLAY

To work with clay is to practice patience, which I was not fortunate enough to be born with. Giving in to frustration or rushing myself with the clay gets me nowhere; and unlike with paint, a broken pot can’t just be painted over.

I have to practice quieting my mind, listening to my hands,
and to the wet earth, to what it wants to become.

Since my relationship to clay is one of touch, of listening with my fingertips, I like to make things that are meant to be touched, be it game pieces or cups or things that live in your pockets. I want to make things that ask you to pick them up

and feel them.
